On July 1, 2019, MMWD's new water rates and fees went into effect. One change is the Capital Maintenance Fee (CMF), which is a new fixed fee based on meter size that will fund our Capital Improvement Program.
During the rate proposal process, we heard from our customers that some have larger meters for what we call "non-consumption reasons" such as an indoor fire sprinkler system, or they live on a hill and require a larger meter to increase water flow to their home, due to a low pressure water service.
To address the needs of customers in these situations, we implemented a CMF fee adjustment application. If you prefer to submit the application online, click here. If you qualify for an adjustment in the CMF fee, we will reduce your CMF fee by one meter size. For example, if your home requires a 1-inch meter because of a fire sprinkler system, we will reduce your CMF fee to that of a 3/4-inch meter.
If you do not have fire sprinklers, or an up-sized meter for increased water flow, but you believe you have a larger meter than you need, you may fill out a meter reduction worksheet. This worksheet will determine whether you qualify for a meter size reduction based on the number of water using fixtures (showers, toilets, irrigation system, etc.) you have in your home. Please note that there is a small cost to reduce the size of your meter.
Not all customers who apply for a reduced meter size, or a reduction in the CMF fee will qualify. Please allow 2 - 4 weeks from the time you submit your application for MMWD to process the application and contact you.
