The Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) Board of Directors and staff are saddened to hear of the passing of Dietrich Stroeh, who died Tuesday, May 30, at his home in Novato at age 80.
“Diet” Stroeh spent 20 years with MMWD, first as an engineer beginning in 1960 and then as general manager from 1974-80. During the drought of 1976-77, he oversaw the construction of a pipeline across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge to keep water flowing to the county, an accomplishment chronicled in the book, The Man Who Made It Rain.
Beyond his work at MMWD, Stroeh was a founding partner of CSW|Stuber-Stroeh Engineering Group, served as President of the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, and was a community leader active in many other organizations in Marin. MMWD board and staff extend our condolences to his family and friends.
