Repairs to Begin on Numerous Slides on Mt. Tam Watershed

Remember those storms last winter? Well, they caused quite a few landslides on critical access roads on Mt. Tam. We are working hard to repair these slides to restore access for emergency vehicles and ensure the safety of hikers, bikers and equestrians that use these roads to enjoy the watershed.

Below you will find project details and work schedules for three of these slide repair projects. We appreciate your patience while these important repairs are made.

Southern Marin Line Road (Crown Road)
• This road is located on Marin County Open Space lands. As such, MMWD is coordinating with Marin County Parks closely on this project. For questions regarding this project, contact Superintendent Brian Sandord (415) 473-7443.
• Two slides – One slide approximately a half mile south of the end of Crown Road (SM-13). The other approximately 600 feet south of the end of Crown Road (SM-3).
• MMWD’s 24-inch Southern Marin transmission pipeline is in the road and its stability is threatened by the slides.
• Work schedule: Work at SM-13 will run from August 6 – October 1. Work at SM-3 will run from October 1 – December 30.
• Access: There will be no public access allowed on Crown Road between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Access may be allowed after 5 p.m. until sundown and on weekends if conditions allow.

Concrete Pipe Road
• Two slides – one at approximately a half mile south of Bolinas-Fairfax Road (CP-9), the other approximately 1 mile south of Bolinas-Fairfax Road (CP-26).
• MMWD’s 30-inch Concrete Pipe Road transmission pipeline is in the road and its stability is threatened by the slides.
• Work schedule: Work at CP-26 will run from August 1 – October 8. Work at CP-9 will run from October 8 – December 30.

• Access: There will be no public access allowed on Concrete Pipe Road between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Access may be allowed after 5 p.m. until sundown and on weekends if conditions allow.

• One slide – located on Phoenix Dam Road near the spillway. The road will be closed for the duration of the project.
• Work schedule: September 3 – November 1.

• Access: There will be no public access allowed on Phoenix Dam Road between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Access may be allowed after 5 p.m. until sundown and on weekends if conditions allow.
