Public Access to Watershed Lands
The watershed is open to the public for recreational use* from sunrise to sunset and may be closed during extreme fire-hazard conditions.

Vehicle Access
Vehicle use passes are required for all vehicles entering the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed via Sky Oaks Road off Fairfax-Bolinas Road.
Vehicle Use Passes
Both day use and annual vehicle use passes can be purchased from an automated pay station located at the Sky Oaks Headquarters kiosk when the watershed is open to the public (daily, sunrise to sunset). PLEASE NOTE: The automated pay station accepts coins, $1, $5 and $10 bills and credit cards (Visa and MasterCard). $20 bills are NOT accepted by the pay station.
Passes are non-replaceable and non-refundable.
When purchasing a pass at the Automated Pay Station at Sky Oaks Watershed Headquarters, the pass holder's credit card statement will reflect a charge to CENTRAL PARKING SYSTEM.
Visitor Fees by Permit Type; Lagunitas - Bon Tempe Lakes as of January 1, 2010:
Vehicle Day Use (passenger vehicle) - $8.00
Vehicle Day Use (vehicle with trailer) - $15.00
Vehicle Day Use Bus (15 or more passengers) - $30.00

Annual Vehicle Passes
Annual passes can be purchased from the automated pay station at the Sky Oaks Watershed Headquarters** (daily, sunrise to sunset). These annual passes are honored at the Bon Tempe-Lagunitas area. Annual passes are valid during the calendar year for which they are purchased through January 31 of the next calendar year. Beginning September 1 of each year, passes go on sale at half price and are valid through January 31 of the next calendar year. Passes are non-refundable and non-replaceable; lost, stolen or destroyed passes will not be replaced.
** When purchasing a pass from the automated pay station at Sky Oaks, a voucher will be issued by the machine. Vouchers are issued in the form of a two-part receipt. The top part of the receipt is labeled “receipt.” It is valid for two weeks from the date of purchase and serves as a temporary pass. It is to be kept on the dashboard of the visitor’s vehicle while visiting the watershed via Sky Oaks. The second part is to be completed and returned to MMWD. The purchaser may submit the form one of three ways:
- Via mail to c/o Sky Oaks Watershed Headquarters, 220 Nellen Ave., Corte Madera, CA 94925 or,
- Hand delivery to the kiosk attendant when on duty or directly to the office at Sky Oaks Watershed Headquarters (office hours M-F 7am to 3:30pm).
The pass holder will then receive, either by mail or in person, the official card-stock annual pass.
COMMERCIAL FILMING:
As a general rule, there can be no endangerment or change in the watershed resulting from filming activities. A special use permit must be acquired in advance from Sky Oaks Headquarters, and all fees/charges paid in advance, including estimated supervision charges. Any overpayment will be refunded.
Insurance Documents:
Evidence of Comprehensive General Liability Insurance policy of at least $2,000,000, naming the District as an additional insured, is required. In addition: An Additional Insured Endorsement form must be completed and signed by the film company’s insurance carrier. MMWD’s Finance Division Manager must sign off on the insurance documents.
FILM FEES (All fees must be paid in advance and are subject to change)
$2,000/day or any part of day.
$1,000 to $2,000/day for setup in preparation of filming.
$1,000 to $2,000/day for takedown, prop removal, or cleanup.
$2,000/day for helicopter landing at designated helipad only. Refueling the helicopter on site is not permitted.
$100 to $1,000/day for still photography, depending upon the scope of the project.
$95/hr per staff person, on-site monitor may be required based on the scope of the project and the determination of the Watershed Superintendent/Manager or his/her designee. (This overtime rate shall be adjusted annually based on District costs including indirect and overhead charges.)
50% of fees/charges is non-refundable if canceled 3 or more days prior to scheduled shooting. Entire fees/charges shall be forfeited if canceled within 3 days prior to scheduled shooting. In addition, if canceled on scheduled shoot date, a minimum of 4 hours staff time will be charged.
Scouting Locations
Depending upon staff availability, the District shall be reimbursed on an hourly basis for staff time dedicated to scouting for film shoot locations and coordinating same.
PHOENIX CABIN RENTAL. Currently the cabin does not meet ADA standards and until further notice it is not available for non-District use.
