HEU Rebates High-Efficiency Urinal Rebates

UPDATED 11/17/09. Please note: Program ended November 16, 2009. Urinals must have been purchased by November 16, 2009. Application must be postmarked by January 31, 2010. Eligible applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis until program funds run out.

The national standard for urinals, set in 1994, is 1.0 gallons per flush, but older fixtures can use considerably more - up to 5 gallons in some cases!

Rebates of up to $200 are available when replacing an existing standard urinal with a High-Efficiency Urinal (HEU) that is designed to use .5 gallons or less per flush.

Rebates of up to $350 are available when replacing an existing standard urinal with an HEU designed to use 1/8-gallon or less.

Rebates of up to $400 are available when replacing an existing standard urinal with a no-water urinal.

What is a High-Efficiency Urinal (HEU)?
The national standard for urinals mandates a maximum flush volume of 1.0-gallons. The flush volumes of a High-Efficiency Urinal (HEUs) range from zero (for no-water urinals) to 0.5 gallons.

A listing of HEUs currently available can be found here.

Water Savings
MMWD staff estimates potential annual water savings per HEU of roughly 16,000 - 23,000 gallons for an office setting and 10,600 – 15,000 gallons for school restrooms.  The lower savings ranges are expected for a .5 gallon-per-flush (gpf) urinal; higher ranges are the expected savings from a no-water urinal.

Because your local sanitation agency calculates your waste water bill based on your potable water usage, additional savings may be realized on your annual waste water bill.

No-Water Urinals
In addition to saving water and sewer costs, no-water urinals  are an improvement over traditional urinals in both maintenance and hygiene. These products use a special trap with lightweight biodegradable oil that lets urine and water pass through but prevents odor from escaping into the restroom. There are no valves to fail and no flooding.
