2008 and 2009 Vegetation Management Plan Update
2008/09 UPDATE: Vegetation Management Plan Reducing Wildfire Risk, Protecting Biodiversity & Controlling Weeds MMWD is updating the 1994 vegetation management plan for the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed and other district lands. The plan lays out how we manage the 21,000-plus acres of undeveloped land under our control. Our goals are to reduce the risk of wildfire, to promote biodiversity, and to control the spread of non-native weeds. Because weed infestation is one of the biggest problems, a major part of this effort is a study of all available weed control options. These include prescribed burning, grazing, biological control agents, mowing, hand removal, and the limited use of specific reduced-risk herbicides. Project Overview Public Involvement Opportunities MMWD is striving to involve the public to the fullest extent possible throughout the planning process. To that end, we hosted two public workshops in 2007, four public workshops and one symposium in 2008, and one public workshop in 2009. Other public involvement opportunities are watershed tours and participation in our volunteer events. The Public Outreach Process (PDF) outlines the complete plan development process, including public participation opportunities.
