Six-month East Blithedale Road pipeline replacement project begins in early April

News Release - March 16

Six-month East Blithedale Road pipeline replacement project begins in early April

Corte Madera, CA – Marin Water will replace a 100-year-old pipe with a new pipeline along East Blithedale Ave. in Mill Valley, beginning in early April. The work will occur between Millwood Street and Camino Alto and is anticipated to be completed in September of 2022. To streamline construction activity and minimize impacts to the surrounding community, Marin Water will coordinate with the City of Mill Valley and its contractor as the city implements its Street Rehabilitation Project along the same corridor.

Pipeline replacement construction activities will take place Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. though setup and cleanup activities may occur outside of this timeframe. To accommodate Park School student pickup and drop-off, daily construction hours will be limited to 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on the section of East Blithedale Ave. between East Dr. and Alta Vista Ave. Motorists should follow traffic control signs, reduce vehicle speeds in construction zones, and allow for extra time on the weekday commute as heavy equipment and construction personnel will be on the roadway. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes –including Tamalpais Junction, Miller Avenue, and Camino Alto – and combine vehicle trips and errands to reduce traffic congestion, when possible.

Water service may be interrupted for short periods of time during construction for properties near the construction area. In the event a temporary shut-off is needed, Marin Water will directly notify occupants of impacted properties 24 to 48 hours in advance of the interruption.

Marin Water provides local drinking water to more than 191,000 customers spanning ten towns and cities in a 147-square-mile area of the county. Updating Marin Water’s aging infrastructure, such as the 100-year old E. Blithedale pipeline, is critical to ensuring the reliability and resiliency of the District's water service delivery system for many years to come.
