Important News Update: San Quentin & Legionnaires’ Disease

Posted on August 31, 2015 at 5:12 PM by Libby Pischel

Water quality tests conducted by MMWD on Friday, August 28 confirmed that MMWD’s water is not the cause of the incidence of Legionnaires’ disease found at San Quentin Prison.

Although San Quentin receives its water supply from MMWD, it stores the water in a tank on-site that is part of the prison’s water distribution system and separate from MMWD’s. Legionnaires’ disease is a pneumonia-like condition that is carried via aerosolized water, such as steam, mist, or moisture. Legionnaires’ disease is not spread by drinking water.

No other MMWD customers are at risk.
