New CA Laws Support Conservation as a Way of Life

Posted on June 26, 2018 at 1:16 PM by Emma Detwiler

Recently Gov. Brown signed two bills that support our collective efforts to make water conservation a way of life in California.

To clarify what you may have seen in the news: The laws do not restrict daily water use by individuals, nor do they mandate one-size-fits-all reductions. Rather, they give water agencies flexibility to determine how best to meet conservation targets within our own communities.

We’ll be sharing more updates in the coming months, as the state develops guidelines for implementing the new legislation. In the meantime, we ask our customers to simply continue using water wisely, as you have done.

Thank you!

While I know there is still time to set the rules used by each water district, I wonder what your thoughts are on MMWD's plans. The new law sets limits for indoor water use per person. Does that mean that we will need to report the number of people per water meter? Will there be an extra allocation for landscape based upon the size of property? We are thinking of putting in 200 square feet of lawn in our backyard. Will we need to tear it out in a few years?
