The district recently completed improvements to the main visitor entrance to the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed on Sky Oaks Road to reduce traffic congestion at the entrance and provide basic visitor services. Vehicles with annual passes no longer have to wait in line behind vehicles that must stop to purchase a daily parking pass because two parking pass machines are now available off the roadway.

Other project improvements include: bike parking, hitching posts for horses, a shade structure and seating, a portable toilet, trash bins, a drinking fountain with bottle filler, and a display kiosk. Throughout this year’s planting season, additional landscaping of native trees and shrubs will be added.

To enhance water quality and natural habitat, bioswales were constructed around the new parking area. Combined with the permeable surface of the parking area, the bioswales will reduce peak storm water runoff and filter out contaminants.
