Ridge Road - Fire Flow Improvement Program

Construction Update

This project, which was completed in August 2022, included nearly a mile of welded steel pipe beneath the Town of Tiburon to boost water volumes at existing fire hydrants and also allow the district to install new hydrants to bolster fire resiliency.

The work was part of a multi-year effort to upgrade portions of the District’s distribution system to provide greater water flows for use by firefighters in the event of a fire.

Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness Critical

This project – installing a larger water pipeline – increases the volume of water available for fighting fires as part of Marin’s Fire Flow Program. Developed together with residents, city and county officials, area fire chiefs and residents – and approved by voters - the Marin Fire Flow Program is being implemented by Marin Water over the next 15 years to address a key public safety concern in the region.

Project Description

The project will install approximately 5,100 feet of 8-inch welded steel pipe and 450 feet of 10-inch HDPE pipe to replace old, leak prone cast iron pipe installed in 1953 in support of the District’s Fire Flow Improvement Program.

Benefits

This project will replace leak prone, fire flow deficient pipe with new seismically resilient pipe and improve fire flow within this community.
