Student Learning Opportunities with Marin Water
Marin Water’s student programs help youth and educators explore the essential role of water in our lives, community and environment. From the classroom to the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed, there’s something for everyone. We invite all school classes within our service area to dive in!
Field & Classroom Programs (Grades K-6)
Through interactive in-class presentations and field trips that immerse students in the beauty and splendor of our Mt. Tam Watershed, students will learn about the water cycle, our local water supply and why it’s important to preserve these ecosystems. Our content aligns with grade-specific themes – like adaptations in fourth grade and ecosystems in fifth grade – and draws from BEETLES and other local partners. Optimal pre- and post-activities enhance learning.
High School Programs
Set high-schoolers up for success with an advanced classroom presentation that reinforces themes like water conservation and efficiency and offers an in-depth look into current water supply sources, climate impact, future water supply projects, water demand by sector, the water and energy nexus, our distribution system and water treatment processes. During a tour of one of our water treatment plants, students will see some of these concepts applied in the real world and they will also learn about careers in the water industry. Students can apply what they’ve learned by participating in our High School Video Contest, which will have a rotating annual theme and cash prizes.
Volunteer & Stewardship Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities with Marin Water support a wide range of ages and interests, from habitat restoration and trail stewardship to assisting with native species counts and other wildlife observations. Help yourself and others engage with the watershed through naturalist hikes, library story time and the Watershed Ambassadors program.
Other Unique Offerings
Project WET Workshop: Climate Change and California Water
Join us for an inspiring workshop on climate change and its impact on California's water resources. Designed for educators working with grades 3-12, the workshop is offered in collaboration with the California Department of Water Resource's Climate Team and the Water Education Foundation's California Project WET program.
This event will take place Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Mt. Tamalpais Room at the Marin Water Administration Building, 220 Nellen Ave., Corte Madera. Registration cost is $25, and includes continental breakfast, lunch, and an opportunity to earn CEU credits and a stipend.
Project WET (Water Education Today) offers hands-on activities, correlated with Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, which bring water science to life through simulations, models and real-world scenarios.
Ways to Stay Connected with us and Nature
Stay in touch with what's happening on our watershed. In our Creek Notes, Marin Water's fisheries team provides periodic updates on fish happenings at Lagunitas Creek. Read detailed, in-depth stories about various plants and animals on our watershed in One Tam “Stories” and learn about nature and contribute to science by using the iNaturalist app. Finally, have a library card? Use it to reserve and pick up a Park Pass for free entry and parking on our watershed.
