To the central and southern Marin Water customers we serve,

As the board of directors recently observed, the rainfall received in October and December provided us the safety net we’ve needed, filling our reservoirs enough to start to move away from the emergency water shortage we’ve faced for months. We also all saw how quickly that wet weather disappeared, leaving dry conditions to once again confront us. This type of drought weather pattern is frustrating because of the uncertainty it brings to estimating rainfall totals from year to year.

Water Use Limits & Penalties Lifted After Winter Rain Replenishes Reservoirs

Corte Madera -- The Marin Water Board of Directors repealed customer water-use limits and associated penalties on Tuesday. The decision was a result of significant winter rainfall that restocked local reservoirs from historic low levels in the summer and early fall to near-full capacity by end of 2021.

Watershed Update - Jan. 14

Coho spawning activity in the Lagunitas Creek watershed seems to have hit a peak recently, with 72 new redds (gravel nests) observed last week and only 18 this week. We saw all these redds in Lagunitas’ two main tributaries, San Geronimo Creek and Devil’s Gulch. Since December 21st high stream flows have prevented us from surveying the main stem of Lagunitas Creek, where we typically observe between a third and a half of all coho redds.

Marin Water has been working with local stakeholders and multiple agencies to augment the district's water supply and lessen the impact of the unprecedented drought and future water shortages. The Emergency Intertie Project (EIP) includes an 8-mile pipeline across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge that would carry water purchased from third parties to Marin. This project will not draw from East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD) water or impact their customers.
