Corte Madera – The Marin Water Board of Directors on Tuesday accepted a $4.6 million California Department of Fish and Wildlife grant that will provide significant support to the District’s efforts to protect endangered coho salmon populations in the Lagunitas Creek watershed.

The Irrigation Association recently named Marin Water as the recipient of the Smart Water Application Technologies 2023 Outstanding Public Engagement Award.  

The award, based on our Water Efficiency Team’s Watershed Approach to Landscaping Program, recognizes water providers who engage and educate the public on smart, efficient irrigation technologies and practices.  

Oct. 18, 2023

Corte Madera – The Marin County Fire Department will conduct a prescribed fire today – Wednesday, October 18 – on the Mount Tamalpais Watershed in coordination with Marin Water.

The operation will take place in the Rock Spring area of the watershed, between Stinson Beach and Mill Valley, and residents may see or smell smoke from the burn even from several miles away. The community is asked to refrain from calling 911 to report smoke coming from the planned burn area to avoid overwhelming emergency dispatch lines.

Marin Water has been honored with a 2023 WaterSense Excellence Award for its work promoting WaterSense and water efficiency within the community it serves. The work, led by the District’s Water Efficiency Department, involved promoting WaterSense labeled products, which use less water than alternative products, helping Marin Water customers save water while also putting our region on a path toward long-term sustainable water use.

Corte Madera – In the coming days, the Marin County Fire Department may conduct a prescribed burn on Marin Water’s Mount Tamalpais Watershed, wielding an important tool in a proactive approach to fire fuel management and a more resilient, ecologically healthy watershed. If implemented, the one- to three-day operation will occur in the Rock Spring Trailhead area where Ridgecrest and Pantoll roads intersect.

Marin Water recently introduced a refreshed look to its website homepage and transitioned its Board meeting calendar and agenda documents to a new online Meetings and Agendas Hub to improve navigation and accessibility for District customers.

Boosted by state and federal grants, planning for the initial phase of habitat restoration work along Lagunitas Creek is nearing completion, with the project commencing as soon as next summer following final design work.
