E-bikes

Overview of E-bike Community Advisory Committee (CAC)

Marin Water has allowed conventional mountain bikes on fire roads for many years as part of a multi-use trail system that includes hiking and equestrian use. Criteria for recreational use are governed by Marin Water Policy 7 Part 5. With the emergence of new electric bicycles (e-bikes), Marin Water seeks to understand the prevalence of e-bikes, their potential impact on areas already open to conventional bicycles, and develop specific guidance related to e-bikes. Marin Water commissioned an e-bike Community Advisory Committee to provide feedback on the appropriate use of this emerging technology on district lands.

Purpose and Charge

The purpose of the CAC is to develop reasonable and actionable recommendations to inform decisions relating to e-bikes usage on watershed lands. Where possible, the CAC will develop recommendations to the Marin Water Board of Directors to aid in the Board’s decisions regarding e-bike use (see Section 4.6 under Decision-Making Protocols.)
